The Holy Father landed in Kazakhstan on Tuesday for a three-day tour of the country meeting with both secular and religious leaders. The final outcome of the trip remains open to speculation, as the pope's schedule remains open to a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will be in Kazakhstan at the same time as the pontiff. ARRESTED CARDINAL REPEATEDLY WARNED HOLY SEE OF CHINESE PERSECUTION, CONDEMNED VATICAN'S SECRETARY OF STATE "It will be an occasion to meet so many religious representatives and to dialogue as brothers, animated by the common desire for peace, the peace for which our world is thirsting," Francis said of the trip over the weekend. During his trip, the pope had been hoping to meet with the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, who has sought to justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on spiritual and ideological grounds in a "metaphysical" battle with the West. However, earlier this summer, Kirill bowed out of the interfaith gathering. Xi is expected to land in Kazakhstan on Wednesday on his own diplomatic trip, raising questions whether the two world leaders could meet. Pope Francis said he remains open to meeting with Chinese leaders, but that he has no news or information about a possible face-to-face. UNITED NATIONS 'HAS NO POWER,' POPE FRANCIS SAYS With arrests, intimidation and legal restrictions from the CCP suppressing even apolitical Catholics' religious practices, the Vatican and Beijing have barely managed to maintain an open dialogue. Under Mao Zedong in the early 1950s, China severed diplomatic ties with the Vatican, razed churches and deported missionaries before setting up its own Catholic Association. Under this self-styled guild, the CCP retained the right to ordain bishops without the Vatican's approval, which the Church has vehemently disputed. Chinese bishops consecrated without papal approval are considered valid, but doing so normally carries an immediate excommunication. The Catholic Church continues to walk a thin line attempting to reclaim authority from the CCP without further endangering its members within Chinese borders. In photos shared to one of his social media accounts, Fetterman, who referred to the council members as "outstanding," posed with a smile alongside District 3 Councilmember Jamie Gauthier and councilmembers-at-large Kendra Brooks and Isaiah Thomas. In a tweet, Fetterman said called them "Three outstanding Councilmembers who are with me in my fight to turn out every vote here in Philly Support local Black-owned businesses." In 2020, amid nationwide protests and riots following the police-involved death of George Floyd, the three councilmembers made clear that they support efforts to defund or reduce funding to police departments, with Thomas calling the notion his "definition of reform." FETTERMAN HOLDS CAMPAIGN RALLY WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD, ‘DEFUND THE POLICE’ ACTIVIST ON 9/11 ANNIVERSARY In a July 2020 essay penned by Thomas, the councilmember who took office in 2020, argued that too much money is already going toward the Philadelphia police department and insisted he wanted to find "more effective investments" in public safety. "In Philadelphia, approximately 15% of the city’s operating budget is allocated to the police department," Thomas said in the essay published by Philadelphia's WHYY. "In a moment where taxpayers are hearing about cuts to critical services, it is understandable that this fact would frustrate many Philadelphians. Let me be clear, it frustrates me, too." "I think that we are allocating way too much of the taxpayers’ dollars to the police department," Thomas added at the time. "I look forward to a chance to discuss, with my colleagues and the public, how to make more effective investments in public safety." A month earlier, in response to a political activist on social media who claimed "defund has a very simple meaning: cut their budget & invest into social [services]," Thomas wrote in a tweet, "Your definition of defund = my definition of reform." Speaking out in favor of the "defund the police" movement in November 2020, Gauthier, who took office in 2020, claimed that "police are a racist institution" and declared her support for the movement. DEM SENATE CANDIDATE FETTERMAN PUSHED TO FREE MAN CONVICTED OF FATALLY SHOOTING, STABBING VICTIM "I do support the movement to defund the police and reimagine what that looks like," Gauthier said, according to Philadelphia Magazine. "I do see a need for police in our society. Although I like the vision — one day having no need for police — it would take a long time for us to get there. I don’t want to minimize where [the call for abolition] comes from — it comes from the fact that police are a racist institution." Gauthier also shrugged off remarks from then-Councilmember Allan Domb who, according to Philadelphia Magazine, insisted earlier that year that the "flavor of the day right now is to blame police." "I don’t think police are perfect, but I think in general they do a very good job," Domb said at the time. In response to Domb's remarks, Gauthier said, "If you don’t live in a neighborhood that is Black and brown, where you deal with the police constantly," then "you are not equipped to make that judgment." Brooks, who took office in 2020 and is the first city council member to represent the Working Families Party, said in a June 2020 op-ed published by the Philadelphia Inquirer that the "uprisings" from the Black Lives Matter movement in America revealed that people want to "defund the police" and "invest in black communities." 11 SENATE RACES WIL DETERMINE WHETHER DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS CONTROL THE CHAMBER AFTER MIDTERM ELECTIONS "When there is no justice, there is no peace," Brooks wrote at the time. "State violence and systemic underfunding for black people are the heart of this crisis. People have lost faith in the institution of government because our government has given us little to believe in, except symbolism sold as progress. We’ve seen symbols topple this week in our city, and steps to hold individual police officers accountable." "The uprisings have made it very clear: People hold power," Brooks added. "And the people have clear demands: Defund the police and invest in black communities." Signaling further support for the Black Lives Matter movement and efforts to defend law enforcement agencies, Brooks also stated at the time that she would "not vote for any budget that increases funding to the police but does nothing to support communities." "If we want a recovery that leaves no one behind, we need a real conversation about redistributing resources from the police budget into community-led programs that can keep us safe and cut down on gun violence," she said. Fetterman's appearance alongside the councilmembers comes amid a wave of crime that has plagued the city in recent years. As of Monday, the city has experienced 384 murders this year, a 3% increase from the same time frame last year, according to police data. | | | | | Biden battles Trump for 'Soul of Nation' because Democrats can't run on his failed policies | | Sep 13, 2022 | | Donald Trump is the monster hiding under the bed. Because Democrats can’t think of much good to say about Joe Biden, they are casting the midterm elections as a referendum …not on their president, but instead, on Donald Trump. Who can blame them? With eight weeks to go, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings, while slightly improved, are still dismal. In fact, they are about where Trump’s were at this point in his presidency. Since Biden has delivered high inflation, soaring crime, a collapsed border and a looming recession, he cannot campaign for Democrats on his record. As a result, has pivoted to attacking Trump and the tens of millions he calls "MAGA Republicans." Biden calls this confrontation a "battle for the soul of this nation." BIDEN’S MAGA-BASHING IS TURNING OFF CENTRIST HOUSE REPUBLICANS He calls Trump (and his supporters) extreme, and a threat to Democracy. He imbues the former president not only with evil intentions but immense super powers. It’s worth noting that despite the demagoguery, Biden rightfully occupies the Oval Office, elections are proceeding apace and, importantly, Republican voters have moved on from Trump. In a recent Pew survey, only 39% of likely GOP voters say Trump should run for president in 2024. In fact, Trump’s standing within the GOP has been steadily declining, as voters got fed up with his wrong-headed fixation on the 2020 election, and self-aggrandizement. His approval from Republicans was slipping until the Mar-a-Lago raid, which fired up his base and put him back on center stage. Perhaps that was the point. HILLARY CLINTON PRAISES BIDEN'S 'MAGA REPUBLICANS' SPEECH AS ‘IMPORTANT SERVICE’ TO COUNTRY Democrats cheer on Biden’s battle, which is not being waged against the moral decline of our nation -- against the rise in lawlessness, vanishing work ethic or the shirking of personal responsibility. It is not a battle against the ugly political divides and lost tolerance that have undermined our civility. Instead, the battle for the soul of the nation is 100% aimed at obliterating former President Donald J. Trump, and eliminating his every policy. Ironically, it is the waging of that war that has undermined Biden’s presidency. Trump’s policies, simply stated, were successful. Biden’s are not. Columnist David Ignatius, writing in the Washington Post, is so excited about Biden’s anti-Trump fervor that he has proclaimed it his legacy: "He is the person who moved decisively to stop Donald Trump." BIDEN TAKES AIM AGAIN AT 'MAGA REPUBLICANS' IN PENNSYLVANIA: 'THIS IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PARTY' Biden, Ignatius explains, not only stopped Trump at the ballot box, but also "through his administration’s steady, unblinking application of the rule of law." That is a startling claim. The Biden White House has broken more laws than I can count. The Supreme Court has batted down White House efforts to rescind President Trump’s Remain in Mexico provision, its mandate requiring that large companies demand worker vaccinations, its effort to regulate greenhouse emissions via the EPA and a lower court judge struck down Biden’s moratorium on oil and gas leasing. Most likely, the courts will rule Biden’s student loan handout is unlawful, as well. But, of course, what really excites Ignatius is Biden’s persistent prosecution of Donald Trump. The hounding of the former president culminated in the recent raid of his residence at Mar-a-Lago, which appeared to many a theatrical and unnecessary political caper. It also appears a distinctly unsteady application of the law. Any fair-minded observer will conclude that the rules that allowed Hillary Clinton to store her personal emails, which included classified information, on a secret server in her home, constructed for the sole purpose of avoiding public scrutiny, and that let her illegally destroy communication devices, will agree that charging Trump for possession of classified documents would be a grossly unequal application of justice. And, we haven’t even gotten to the non-investigation into Hunter Biden’s shady business deals with companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party and other questionable activities in Ukraine and Russia. Or Joe Biden’s involvement with those sketchy affairs. BIDEN SAYS ‘MAGA REPUBLICANS’ THREATEN DEMOCRACY AS HE AND DEMS CRANK UP ANTI-TRUMP RHETORIC AHEAD OF MIDTERMS Surely a steady application of the rule of law would not allow FBI agent Timothy Thibault to shut down the investigation into Hunter’s nefarious laptop. A steady application of the rule of law would not have whistleblowers lining up to report political bias within the FBI – bias which has led to ongoing probes of former President Trump. For Ignatius and other Democrats, nothing tops defeating Trump, even if it means permanently scarring and dividing the nation. That is Ignatius’ excuse for Biden’s abusive speech in Philadelphia, in which he excoriated Trump supporters. The Post columnist explains that ignoring Trump didn’t work as Biden hoped it would, so the president had to turn vicious. Hilariously, Ignatius recalls that in Biden’s inaugural speech "he used the word "unity" eight times… And he seemed to understand his place in the American story, replacing Trump’s "carnage" with something decent." CLICK HERE TO GET THE OPINION NEWSLETTER That includes, apparently, going after Trump and his followers, insulting tens of millions as "quasi-fascists." Ignatius is quite cheered that Biden’s polling has improved, but he doesn’t explain why Biden’s approval was so lousy in the first place. Biden is a failed president exactly because he made it his mission to undo everything that Trump did. On the issues voters care most about, Trump had the right policies. Policies that worked. Republicans are playing defense and allowing Democrats to win with this campaign against Donald Trump. Despite nearly 70% of the country believing we’re on the wrong track, Democrats’ prospects have improved. Biden said in Philadelphia that Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans "represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic." Republicans need to remind voters what it is that Biden considers "extreme." That Biden thinks a secure border, safe streets, affordable energy, stable prices, a growing economy, states’ rights and parental involvement in our children’s education are "extreme" ideas. They need to tell voters that the so-called MAGA policies transcend Donald Trump, and constitute the bedrock of sensible ideas that work for America. They need to make the midterms a referendum on Joe Biden. That’s an easy win. The suspect, Marquez Smith, is charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of cruelty to children and one count of violating parole, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Deputies for the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 6:15 p.m. to a home on Pebble Lane in Covington, Ga., to find a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were at the home to drop off the woman’s 15-year-old daughter, but the teen girl did not want to go into the house with her father, investigators said. PORTLAND-AREA MAYOR'S HOME TARGETED BY ARSON SUSPECT WHO ALLEGEDLY SET FIRE BY GARAGE, FLED SCENE At some point, Smith returned to the house to retrieve a gun and came back outside, shooting his ex-wife and her boyfriend while they sat inside their vehicle. They both were struck, and the man, who was behind the wheel, attempted to flee the scene, but the vehicle careened into a mailbox, WXIA-TV reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman died in an ambulance while in transport to the hospital. FOX 5 identified the deceased woman as Desiree Cash. Smith initially fled in a pick-up truck but made arrangements to turn himself in at the Newton County Sheriff's Office around midnight. A relative of one of the victims told FOX 5 that a seven-month-old was also in the car when Smith allegedly fired into the vehicle. | | | | | | | Illinois mayor rips Gov. Pritzker over eliminating cash bail: 'He is not listening to us' | | Sep 13, 2022 | | An Illinois mayor sounded the alarm on ending cash bail, Tuesday, slamming Gov. J.B. Pritzker over the "horrible" law which is poised to allow the release of alleged criminals into communities without paying up. Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau accused the Democrat governor of "not listening" to voters and other elected officials as critics worry about the impact the law will have on public safety overall. "He is not listening to us on this, and historically, he doesn't really listen to any of us," Pekau said on "America's Newsroom." "He does what he feels like. He did the same thing through COVID and didn't listen to us, so it's not a surprise that he's not listening." LIGHTFOOT SAYS CHICAGO MAKING PROGRESS ON CRIME DESPITE CONTINUED VIOLENCE, BUSINESSES LEAVING "And it's also not a surprise they passed this back in January of last year and waited till January of 2023 to put it into effect," he continued. "It's because they knew the impact that this was going to have, and they didn't want to be running an election after seeing the impact of such a horrible law." Illinois is poised to become the first state in the country to eliminate cash bail. The Safety Accountability and Fairness Equity Today Act (Safe-T Act), signed by Pritzker last year, is set to take effect on January 1 of 2023. Suspects accused of crimes such as kidnappings, second degree murder, robbery, arson, and others can be eligible for release without bail. "It clearly puts citizens and police officers at risk in the favor of criminals who are violent and puts us all at risk," Pekau said. "And it gets worse than just being released on bail. When this goes into effect January of 2023... a police officer will not be allowed to remove someone from your property for trespassing. They can take residence in your shed, your pool, in a business, and all they can do is ticket someone." "By law, they're not going to be allowed to touch someone and remove them from those premises," he continued. "Think about how dangerous that will be with people taking the law into their own hands." The law will also affect who can be arrested and expand eligibility for criminals vying for probation. The Orland Village Board unanimously passed a resolution demanding state legislators work with public safety representatives to address problems they see with the Safe-T Act. The village is mostly located in Cook County, the most populated county in the state. Pekau urged Illinois voters to make their voices heard at the polls to elect officials who can change course before it is too late. "The most important thing that voters can do is vote these people out of office so that on January 3rd, when new legislators come into power, they can overturn this horrible law," Pekau urged. Lindsey Graham Tuesday is announcing a bill to ban abortion after 15 weeks as debate rages over the issue after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade earlier this year. Titled the "Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act," the legislation comes as Democrats hammer the GOP on the campaign trail over state laws restriction abortions. Graham told Fox News Digital Tuesday morning that his bill is similar to laws in other developed countries and could actually help Republicans running in the midterms. "I see this as a responsible alternative to the very radical position by Democratic senators," Graham, R-S.C., said. "I can assure that a vast majority of Americans do not support abortion on demand up to delivery." MIKE HUCKABEE: GOP NEEDS TO STOP BEING AFRAID OF ISSUES LIKE ABORTION Graham added: "This bill puts us in line with the rest of the world, so when you're on the campaign trail you have a chance to talk about what you're for." Graham's bill includes several exceptions, including for rape, incest and when a woman's life is in danger from a pregnancy. It also explicitly bans the prosecution of women seeking abortions. A criminal penalty of up to five years in prison applies to doctors who perform abortions, according to draft text of Graham's bill. The bill also includes provisions for children born alive after an abortion, and requires a physician trained in neonatal resuscitation to be present at an abortion if a child can survive outside the womb. Many GOP-controlled states are pushing different forms of abortion bans or restrictions, and some national-level Republicans want the federal government to stay out of the debate. However, Graham's bill will mark the most high-profile national GOP effort on abortion to restrict abortion so far. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Democrats on the congressional campaign trail have cited the abortion issue as a reason they may be outperforming expectations, and some Republicans have cautioned that the party should stay away from the issue. Graham, however, says Republicans should lean into th issue and, "expose your Democratic opponent for being incredibly radical on the issue of abortion." "I don't know what Democratic candidates in these contested states will say about a bill such as mine," Graham said. "But I know the American people, or a significant majority, support limiting abortion at 15 weeks." | | | | | Meghan Markle podcast on hold during Queen Elizabeth II mourning period | | Sep 13, 2022 | | Meghan Markle has temporarily pumped the brakes on her successful podcast "Archetypes" in light of Queen Elizabeth II's death. The case involves a Virginia father who was arrested last year while speaking out at a school board meeting after his daughter was sexually assaulted in a public school bathroom by a male student. "All that Scott Smith and his family have ever asked for is that the Loudoun County school system protect their daughter and treat them fairly; it has not," Bill Stanley, the attorney for Virginia father Scott Smith, said in a press release Monday provided to Fox News Digital. "The Court’s Order today has corrected, in some measure, the injustice created by Ms. Biberaj’s bias against Mr. Smith, and the Court has restored his hope for a fair trial on the remaining charge against him in his quest to protect his beloved daughter. We are very grateful for the Court’s ruling," Stanley added. Smith attended the school board meeting last year to speak out against the school’s failure to protect his daughter after she was sexually assaulted in a girl’s bathroom in May 2021 by a male student at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn. The board meeting soon made national headlines - and became a focal point of the Virginia gubernatorial election last year - when video and images showed Smith being dragged out of the meeting by law enforcement officials, and the dad said the school board was engaging in a cover-up of the assault. DOZENS OF LOUDOUN COUNTY STUDENTS STAGE WALKOUT OVER SEXUAL ASSAULT BY BOY IN GIRLS' BATHROOM The unidentified male student was ultimately charged with sexual assault at two separate high schools and was found guilty earlier this year. Smith was arrested and convicted of two misdemeanors following the school board meeting: disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice during the school board meeting. Circuit Court Judge James Plowman previously dismissed Smith’s count of obstruction of justice, and the Virginia dad is now trying to appeal the disorderly conduct count. A Sept. 2 order from Judge Plowman detailed that he appointed a special prosecutor in Smith’s appeal, and booted Soros-backed prosecutor Biberaj and her office from the case. "There is insufficient evidence to determine whether or not a direct conflict exists that would mandate removal and/or disqualification of the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office," Plowman’s order states. LOUDOUN COUNTY MOM SAYS 6-YEAR-OLD ASKED HER IF SHE WAS 'BORN EVIL' BECAUSE SHE'S WHITE Plowman said that he found Smith’s lawyer persuasive during oral arguments and granted Smith's motion to recuse the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen will now handle the disorderly conduct count appeal. "The concerns about the public confidence in the integrity of the prosecution as well as the Defendant’s concerns regarding the impartiality of the Commonwealth’s Attorney are sufficiently grounded. As a result, the integrity of the Defendant’s due process rights is in jeopardy and must be protected," Plowman wrote. Smith welcomed the news, according to a press release from his attorney's office. "A fair system of criminal justice that is void of both bias and political agendas is the cornerstone of a free society," Smith said in comment provided to Fox News Digital. "From the beginning, Ms. Biberaj has sought to make an example of me for simply standing up to defend my daughter at the now infamous Loudoun County School Board meeting. Buta Biberaj has demonstrated a bias against me throughout the court proceedings, and she has continued to fan the flames of those who would label parents like me who stand in protection of their kids against dangerous school policies as being ‘domestic terrorists.’" "Nothing could be further from the truth." SOROS QUIETLY DROPS $200,000 BACKING ANOTHER FAR-LEFT PROSECUTOR IN VIRGINIA Biberaj’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter. She did express surprise over the removal of her office in comment to WTOP. "I’m surprised by the court’s decision, since I was never given the opportunity to come back and have conversations about the disorderly conduct," Biberaj told the outlet. Olsen, the longest-serving incumbent prosecutor in Northern Virginia and a Republican, said Judge Plowman had called him about the change, according to WTOP. "Judge Plowman called me to ask if I was available," Olsen told WTOP. "As is often the case, a special prosecutor can be necessary because of potential conflict of interest." LOUDOUN COUNTY TEEN CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AVOIDS SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY, VICTIM'S PARENTS RESPOND Stanley told Fox News Digital on Monday afternoon that Smith has a "right for fair trial" and lamented the political nature of Biberaj’s office during the case. "Believe it or not, prosecutors are supposed to be impartial. They’re supposed to look at the facts, apply the law and if so, then prosecute. This seemed to turn very political, very quickly, in the battle in Loudoun County, between this prosecutor who had been funded by George Soros," the attorney said, noting that Biberaj "took it upon herself to personally prosecute" the case. VIRGINIA JUDGE BOOTS LIBERAL DA OFF CRIMINAL CASE FOR 'MISLEADING' PUBLIC, GOP AG PREPARED TO TAKE OVER This is not the first time Plowman has booted Biberaj’s office from a case. He removed the county’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Office from a serial burglary case in June for "deliberately misleading the Court and the public." "The Commonwealth is deliberately misleading the Court, and the public, in an effort to ‘sell’ the plea agreement for some reason that has yet to be explained," Plowman said of that case, which involved a man charged with three misdemeanors for destruction of property and false identification, and two felonies for burglary. STAFFER FOR SOROS-BACKED DA'S OFFICE HAS HISTORY OF RIDICULING WHITE AMERICANS AND CONSERVATIVES, TWEETS SHOW "Biberaj and the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is hereby REMOVED AND DISQUALIFIED from further prosecution as counsel of record in this matter," the judge wrote. The state’s Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares sent a letter to the chief judge shortly after that order, saying the court "has rightfully lost confidence" in Biberaj and her office. He added that his office was ready to assist and even prosecute the case "considering this unprecedented development," according to the letter which was provided to Fox News Digital in June. Stanley told Fox News Digital that though the judge and the prosecutor were the same in Smith’s legal battle and the serial burglary case, "these are two different cases" and "one has nothing to do with the other." Plowman is a Republican who previously served as the Loudoun commonwealth’s attorney before Biberaj’s election in 2019. | | | | | |
